Glossary
TimeLine has its own words for things. Here’s what each one means.
Getting around
- TimeLine
- Your feed of moments, one day at a time, always in the order they happened. Three feeds — Public, Following and BFFs. Swipe sideways for the day before or after; Filter narrows it to one type of moment.
- Ruler
- The time bar along the bottom of every timeline. Drag or tap it to jump to any day. Zoom in from days to hours and minutes. Badges on the ruler mark Milestones, Predictions coming back and Throwbacks.
- Moment-os
- Where you make moments: pick a type, build it, preview it, then post. The types run along the top — Glimpse, Photo, Video, Audio, Games and TimeShare — with each one’s formats under it.
- Explore
- Find people, groups and places, and browse Charts, the Arcade and the Library.
- Activity
- Your alerts — Moments and People — plus Messages and Calendar. Pick what reaches you in Settings → Notifications.
- Messages
- Private chats, under Activity. A first message to someone new arrives as a request.
- TimeVault
- Your profile: a card that flips open to your own timeline, chips, pet and rewards. Tap the card to open your portal. The tabs along the top hold Saved, Edit and Rewards; the cog opens Settings.
Moments
- Moment
- Anything you post. Every moment is tagged to when it happened and lives on a timeline. There are no private accounts — moments are public unless posted in a private group.
- Glimpse
- A styled card built from words — Standard, Signs, News, Pages, Art, Goals, Review, Countdown and more. The card is the editor: you type straight onto it, then pick a look, colours, font and animation in the style bar. Some pills hold several formats: Signs is Poster, Neon Sign and Timestamp, switched with the pill’s chip at the start of the style bar.
- Photo
- One or more photos with crop, filters, effects, overlays and layouts. Photo formats like Polaroid, Framed, OOTD, Meme, Before & After, Throwback, Trip and Food live here too. Plain photos are Classic.
- Video
- A video clip you can trim, speed up, loop, and play inside a retro device shell.
- Audio
- Voice memos, soundscapes, music, podcasts, radio, conversations, Studio tracks and freestyles. Voice memos can play inside a device shell — a turntable, Tape Walker, CD player, TimePod and more — with live captions. Music, podcasts, radio and tracks keep playing while you scroll, change screens or lock your phone; podcasts pick up where you stopped.
- Studio
- Make a beat in layers — drums, bass, chords, melody and your voice — and post it as a Track. Start from a vibe (Lo-fi, Trap, Country…) or a blank loop, open one layer at a time, then mix it down. Others can Remix it or freestyle over it.
- Freestyle
- Rap or sing over a beat, with word drops, rapid-fire rhymes, a topic or a battle to answer. Up to 16 bars over a built-in beat, a Library beat or a Studio track. Rhyme with: rhyme the word, tap Next, and see how many you fit in. Your lyrics are written out for you. Battles are voted on by the crowd for 48 hours.
- Games
- Playable challenges you build and beat first. Your score is the bar followers try to top. Pick a cartridge from a shelf — Arcade, Sports, Puzzle & Word, Guess It or Battle (Platformer, Mini Golf, Trivia, Tap Hero, Boat Wars…) — build the level, choose the device it plays on, test play it to set the bar, then post.
- TimeSurfers
- Surf three lanes through eleven decades, from silent film to SolarPunk. A Games cartridge. Swipe to change lanes, jump blocks and slide under bars; every 30 seconds a time warp drops you into the next decade. Collect each era’s items and grab a Shield, Magnet, Era boost or ×2. Everyone who plays your moment runs the same course.
- Noggin Cup
- Big-head soccer: beat a ladder of rivals to lift the cup, with your friends’ faces on the heads. A Games cartridge. Head and kick a bouncing ball past up to five rivals in a row, each with a style (Wall, Rocket, Jumper, Trickster) and a super shot. Touching the ball fills your meter; fire a Fireball, Ice shot, Lightning, Tornado or Giant ball. Hit pickups with the ball for a big head, a tiny goal and more. Pick the stadium, the ball and the gadgets on the pitch, and add photos for the faces.
- TrailBlazers
- The trail game: ride a famous American trail while every leg jumps decades, wagons to EVs. A Games cartridge. Pick a trail (the Oregon Trail, Route 66, the Pacific Coast Highway, the Katy Trail…), a season and a role. A crew of four comes along; swap people you follow (or your pet) into their seats. Stores, events, river crossings, hunts and chance run-ins with friends along the way; each person’s spirits, checkpoints along the road (a few of them odd), a mission you pick each leg, and a stop at its end to rest up and fix your ride. Friends who fall get a replay and a tombstone others find on the trail. Turn off “Let friends add me to TrailBlazers” in Settings → Privacy.
- TimeShare
- Share a link. YouTube, Spotify, X and more play right inside the card.
- Format
- A kind of Glimpse, Photo or Audio moment with its own card, like Review or Countdown. Some Glimpse pills group formats: Standard (Quote, Ransom Note, Redacted) · Signs (Poster, Neon Sign, Timestamp) · News (Headline, Breaking News, Newspaper) · Sports (Scoreboard) · Note (Sticky, Index Card, Bulletin, Telegram, Fortune Cookie) · Pages (Letter, Book, Essay) · Art (Paint, Pixel Art) · Progress (Habit, Workout) · Goals (Vision Board, Bucket List).
- Look
- A format’s preset style — colours, border and type — picked from tiles in the style bar.
- Animation
- How a card plays in: when it scrolls into view, or behind a cover you tap. Picked under ANIMATE in the style bar. Tap the chip in a moment’s header to replay it.
- Shell
- The device a Video, Audio or Games moment plays inside — a vintage TV, a turntable, a handheld. Picked under SHELL in Moment-os. Its buttons and knobs work: play, pause, volume, skip. Games play on handhelds, an arcade cabinet, phones (Flip Phone, Blueberry), a Color Calc, a Desktop and Laptop, consoles (TimeStation, TimeBox, Time Motion — the creator can turn on tilt to steer — and Couch Console) and Color Goggles, in the colour you pick. The creator can also pick the controls: buttons, touch or both.
- Overlay
- An animated layer on a Video — old film, TV static, thermal, fireworks, comic book. Two can stack. Picked under OVERLAYS in Moment-os, by family: Film · Signal · Atmosphere · Fun. Some recolour the picture itself (Thermal, B&W, Night Vision, Old Hollywood); each layer has its own intensity.
- HUD
- A readout on a Video — when and where it was recorded, the weather, your run, the song — above its overlays. Picked under HUD in Moment-os, below OVERLAYS: Disposable, Wristwatch, Weather, Run HUD, Now Playing, News Ticker and more. It shows the moment’s real facts, never today’s.
- Framed
- One photo in a picture frame — gilt, wood, wavy, neon and more — on a wall if you like. Pick the frame, its finish, the opening’s shape and a mat in the style bar. Under WALL, hang it on a wall, brick or a mantel.
- Book
- A little storybook: a cover you design and up to 10 pages of words and photos. Pick the cover’s colour, style and photo, then type each page right on it. In the feed, tap the book to open it and tap a page to turn it.
- Poll
- A question with two to four options that closes after the time you set.
- React
- A Glimpse in reply to someone’s moment, with the original quoted underneath. Share → My Feed on any moment starts one.
- Draft
- Unfinished work Moment-os keeps for you, all in one place — the Drafts button at the top of Moment-os.
Time
- TimeCapsule
- A moment buried until a future date. Until then, everyone sees only a countdown.
- Blip
- A moment that disappears after a set time — an hour up to a week.
- Schedule
- Write a moment now and have it post itself at a later time.
- Come back
- Bring a moment back on a day you pick — a nudge just for you, or a re-post on the TimeLine. Bucket List, Habit and Milestone moments offer it on Post Preview. Predictions, Countdowns and Vision Boards come back on their own.
- Milestone
- A big life event — a wedding, a new job, a new baby — marked with a gold badge. Milestones post today only and get a badge on your TimeVault ruler.
- Prediction
- A claim about the future that posts again on its return day. Others vote Believe or Doubt.
- Countdown
- A live countdown to a day, with check-ins that post themselves along the way.
- Throwback
- Photos from the past, posted now but filed on the day they happened.
- Calendar
- Everything with a date in one place: your entries, what’s coming up and your memories. Under Activity. Day, Week and Month views show scheduled moments, capsules, countdowns, predictions coming back, birthdays, medals and “N years ago”. Add your own entries with reminders.
People
- BFFs
- People you follow who follow you back. They get their own feed.
- Following
- Everyone you follow, BFFs included. Their moments fill the Following feed.
- Private account
- Your card only flips for people you approve. Following you becomes a request. Turn it on in Settings → Privacy. Your name, card front and Charts stay visible; your moments, BFFs, Following and Bucket List open only to accepted followers (or BFFs only, your pick). Followers you already had stay.
- Groups
- Public or private spaces with their own timeline. Join with a six-character invite code.
- Mentions
- Type @username in a moment or comment to link that person and let them know.
- Verdict
- A format’s own vote in the footer — Drip or Nah on an OOTD, LOL or Mid on a meme.
- Daily Bots
- Five labelled bots that each post once a day: a dad joke, a word, two photo guesses, a game pick. DailyDad, DailyWord, DailyGuess, DailyTime and SportsBot wear the robot badge and are run by TimeLine. Each game stays open until the bot’s next moment, which shows yesterday’s answer. Bots only post — no replies or Letters. Hide or mute them in Settings → App.
Your TimeVault
- Card
- The front of your TimeVault. Tap it to flip it open; style it under Edit.
- Chips
- The stat and link pills under your vault header. Choose and order them yourself.
- Pet
- A pixel pet on your TimeVault, in the colour you pick. It grows as you post; visitors feed it.
- Themes
- Colour themes for the whole app. Some are in the Shop, for tokens.
- Saved
- Moments you’ve bookmarked, on your TimeVault, filtered by type.
- Bucket List
- Up to 50 things you want to do. Checking one off posts it as a moment.
- Habits
- Daily or weekly goals with check-ins, streaks and reminders. Share a streak as a moment.
Rewards & community
- Charts
- Today’s most-liked public moments, live. The day ends at midnight Pacific. Bots never rank. Charts → Daily has the Daily Bots’ own boards: longest streaks, closest guesses and the best SportsBot pick record.
- Medals
- Each day’s top ten moments win Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze — kept on the moment for good.
- Level & XP
- XP from posting, joining in, quests and medals. Every new level pays tokens.
- Milestones
- Quests you finish just by using TimeLine — likes, BFFs, streaks, every format. Each step pays XP and tokens. They’re always on, filed by kind on Rewards, each showing its next step. A few are secret until you find them.
- Rewards
- Your level, streaks, tokens, quests and milestones, on your TimeVault.
- Quests
- Sets of tasks that teach TimeLine. Each one earns a Passport stamp and tokens. Three paths — The Gamer, The Social Butterfly, The Explorer — climb from Easy to Expert, plus four capstones. You pick a path to start; the other two open after your first quest.
- Passport
- The book of stamps you earn from quests. Style its cover and lay the stamps out yourself. Each stamp shows how rare it is — the share of people who have it. Earned stamps also go on your Letters. Anyone can open your Passport from its chip.
- Shop
- Extra games, consoles, card borders, flips and looks — all for tokens. Posting is never locked. A few things only come from finishing a quest; everything else is in the Shop. A locked tile shows which, and tapping it explains how.
- Tokens
- TimeLine’s one currency. Earn them from quests, milestones, streaks, medals and levels; spend them in the Shop. Consoles cost the most, then games, then looks. You can also send a Shop item to a BFF with your tokens. Your balance and how to earn more are on the Tokens page, from Rewards or the Shop.
